This is the start of Spring Break in my school district. I have students who are traveling to visit relatives in the state, students who are heading south to warm beaches some who have left the country, and some, like me, who are staying put for a relaxing week at home.
My grandmother, would wisely say that it was possible to “travel the world” from her arm chair, just by reading a book. I feel much the same way, except now, thanks to technology, it is possible to travel the world by “virtually” following other people in their travels. As I mentioned in my last post, thanks to the blogs of fellow TGC fellows, I have been able to climb up the steps of Georgian castles, shop in Morroccan bazaars and marvel at vibrant blue buildings.
Question for students:
I would love to join you on your Spring Break adventures. If you are staying home how are you spending your time? What fun things are you doing? If you are traveling, where are you going? What new things are you seeing and doing! Remember, there will be “prizes” to everyone who posts over break!
2nd Grade Goes Global 
Dear Mrs. Wilkinson,
It’s great here in Florida! Me, Grammy and Mommy are in a hotel. The hotel has a pool that’s 3, 4 and 5 feet deep. I swam in the swimming pool with my mom. I also made some friends.
I did an Easter Egg hunt at Aunt Cindy’s house. We went to our cousin Candy and Ben’s house. I went to church to celebrate Jesus.
I miss Daddy. But, I really like the palm trees here. It is very hot!

Hi Mrs. Wilkinson,
It’s Brady. Today I went fishing in the ocean and caught 16 fish. They were called mangrove snappers and amberjacks. I also caught a grouper. It was really hard to pull up the mangrove snapper.
I made friends eith perple from other states like Illinois.
I have also caught 6 lizards so far. The lizards are actually an invasive species frim Mexico called anoli. Sounds like canoli.
I like the warm weather here but, I am excited to come back and see my class friends. Bye for now.

Thank you so much for sharing part of your vacation with me! I have never heard of a Mangrove Snapper– I am going to look it up to see what they look like! It sounds like it was s big fish. Are you catching fish out in the ocean or on a lake? Is it different from fishing in Wisconsin? I think it is great that you are learning about invasive species! Hi Mrs. Wilkinson,
I’m writing from the beach at Marco Island. Marco Island is in Florida and we are sitting by the Gulf of Mexico. I collected 55 sea shells and I found 20 snails. I went on a jet ski at 55 miles per hour and saw dolphins jumping out of the water. That was the highlight of my trip. I had 3 key lime pies and hope I have more. I hope you are having a nice time. This is Ava T writing from the beach on Marco Island. Marco Island is in southern Florida. We have spent lots of time in the ocean and along the shore collecting sea shells. My favorite thing that we have done is ride a jet ski. We rode it in the Gulf of Mexico and went 55 miles per hour!!! I hope you are having a nice break. See you soon!

One of my favorite things to do when I Travel is to eat different foods. You are so lucky to have had the chance to eat key lime pie!

Hello Mrs. Wilkinson,
I went to England for Spring Break. I got to see Buckingham Palace up close. I also got to go inside a old time telephone booth.I also got to reach inside an old mail box.I got to go on Nelsons column. I got to go on London Bridge. I got to go inside the biggest toyshop in the world! I got to see the tallest building in Europe.I did an Easter egg hunt at the Cotswolds cause I skipped Easter. I got to see the london Eye up close. I also got to see Big Ben up close. And I also got to see this pickle looking building called the Gherkin. I saw a lot more buildings but I still had tons of fun. Did you know that Zootopia in England is called Zootropolis?

You had so many amazing adventures! Isn’t it incredible to think that the queen of England actually LIVES in Buckingham Palace? Did you see those famous guards standing in front of the gate? I think it is great that you saw the tallest building in Europe because we are going to be doing some math problems about tall buildings and long bridges! What was the Cotwolds like? Was it very green there? And I am not sure what Zootopia is. Is that a TV show?

The Cotswolds were very green and hilly. There were lots of very small villages with buildings made of stone. We also got to see this ancient thing called Stonehenge nearby.
Zootopia is a movie for kids. We saw it before we left for our trip. We thought it was funny that the same movie is called “Zootropolis” in England.
We did see some guards who weren’t allowed to smile. We saw them at Buckingham Palace and at the Tower of London. I got my picture taken with a Beefeater (also a guard) at the Tower of London. That’s where the queen’s jewels are kept.

This is Vena. My family made a 3500 miles long to Key West in Florida. On our way we stopped in Nashville, Tennessee and saw the arena of Nashville Predators NHL ice hockey team. We also saw the stadium of Tennessee Titans football team and we visited the Museum of country music. After Nashville we stopped at NASA space center, where they launch the space ships. I saw there a car, that was used on the Moon and also a movie about 3 astronauts, who died during the start of the racket. The second stop on Florida was in Miami. We visited the game of Florida Panthers as the played vs. Toronto Maple Leafs. I saw Jaromir Jagr, who is the most famous Czech ice hockey player. He is already 44 years old. I have shirt with his name and number on the back. Finally we arrived to Key West, that is the most southern point of US. We went out on the open see for snorkeling and watching the dolphins. They were in their real home.

What an adventure! 3,500 miles is a VERY long car ride! I cannot decide what was more exciting. . . seeing dolphins in their own natural habitats, seeing a famous Czech hockey player HERE in the USA, or getting to see where rockets that have been to the moon are made!

Hi, this is Seeun. My family and I traveled to New York. New York was interesting and very fun.
On our way we stopped at chicago to fly to New York. It took for 2hours. We finally arrived and my mom’s friend picked us up. First, we went to Statue of Liberty, and the Next day we went to Empire State Building. I even got to go to NBC tower and it was tall because I got to see Empire State Building from NBC tower. I saw people ice skate and they were good at it. Also, we went to a Metropolitan, American history and 911 Museum.It was really fun, but we had to walk a lot. I learned that there used to be two buildings in New York, but they crashed because of the airplane attack. We ate Shack Shack burger in Central park. I think New York
city was crazy, but it was still fun. NEW YORK CITY WAS SUPER DUPER FUN

Hello Mrs.Wilkonson,
I went to Florida. I went shopping in Diagon Alley.I got to go on Rockin’ Rollercoaster, Goofy’s Barnstormer, Space Mointain, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.
I had my own time with Olivander the Wandmaker and he let me do the experience just with my family.
I had a great time at my grandparents. We went to see manatees but there weren’t any there.

I also stayed home for most the break–but I did not have anything as exciting as GETTING TWO DOGS happen at my house! What do the dogs look like? Are they fun to play with? Thank you so much for writing about what you did over break on my blog! What a fun trip to take during the break. I cannot believe you went on the Hurricane. I have seen that water slide and it is terrifying!! How did you feel when you were zipping down it? I had a good spring break. I went on a short trip to St. Louise with my family because it was my son’s birthday and he LOVES big museum that it there. It is called the City Museum and it is more like a playground than a museum. I spent the rest of the break cleaning my house, which probably does not sound so fun, but was actually a great thing for me to do!
